Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that sends them lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law stars in Skeleton Crew and other stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger siblings is the same one that Chewbacca’s family watches in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). He has a cameo in Crazy Cartoon AniMat: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022). I watched the first two episodes, and while there’s a clear attempt to make a Goonies in Space show, what’s wrong with that? It’s a completely different take on the story of the Star Wars universe. I liked the look and feel of this world’s suburban town, since we’ve never seen it. The town they came from reminded me more of E.T.’s hood than anything we’ve seen recently. The four main characters are typical but enjoyable, each with clearly defined roles in the group and the actors play them well. The pirate vibe isn’t necessarily something we’ve seen before, it adds a bit of a creepy element and a sense of danger. If this were an ’80s movie, it would fit perfectly. So far, I’m enjoying it for the new storytelling elements of the Star Wars universe, the nostalgic nods to the movies from my childhood, and the fact that I can share this Star Wars experience with my kids.
